Job Description:

THIS POSITION IS AN ON-CALL POSITION - SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST LIVE WITHIN AN 10 MILE RADIUS OF THE HWY 49/HWY 412 INTERSECTION: JOB OPEN UNTIL FRIDAY, AUGUST 29th

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION:  This position has been deemed a Safety Sensitive position and any person performing duties in this position while under the influence of marijuana or any other substance (legal or illegal) that could impair the employee may constitute a threat to health and safety.  PMU maintains a zero-tolerance for the use of any substance that may impair a Safety Sensitive individual.  Consequences of a violation can be found in the PMU Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual.

SUMMARY:  Incumbents must work in a highly dynamic environment involving both planned and unplanned activities.  Must work safely with team to maintain existing and install new sewer utilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Ability to repair and replace water and sewer mains, sewer manholes, force mains, fire hydrants, and other water and sewer systems and assemblies as needed.

Responds to unplanned operational or maintenance events.

Diagnoses operational problems and recommends corrective actions.

Ability to use safe work practices to protect yourself and your team

Aids the Water & Sewer Department Manager in developing annual budgets.

Willingness to learn to operate heavy equipment, dump trucks, Hydro excavation and Flusher Truck, and Camera Van.

Ability to work with team and work within the public eye.

Ability and knowledge to use small hand tools.

Ability to work in ditches, manholes and confined spaces.

Ability to work in contact with sewage.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Incumbent must have a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED). 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence and to keep detailed paperwork/logs.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret construction drawings.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-step or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, public officials, and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with each.  Ability to learn and use safety practices and equipment.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to read and understand maps and charts. General knowledge on emailing, using calendars, reports, Microsoft Word and Excel, and must have the ability to input data and retrieve information using a terminal, PC, iPad, or other keyboard devices.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year from date of eligibility within the company.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.  The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hepatitis A and B vaccines, provided by PMU, are mandatory and must be completed as scheduled after hire date.  If immunities are not developed, each vaccine series must be taken again.  To maintain job position, the employee must become immune to Hepatitis A and B.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to raw sewage (all protective equipment is provided) and, in some situations, toxic or caustic chemicals.  The employee must have the ability to work in confined spaces (the employee is required to have an attendant for all determined confined spaces and must follow the PMU safety procedures regarding such spaces).  The employee should be able to perform well in groups or alone.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
