THIS POSITION IS AN ON-CALL POSITION - SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST LIVE WITHIN AN 10 MILE RADIUS OF THE HWY 49/HWY 412 INTERSECTION
SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: This position has been deemed a Safety Sensitive position and any person performing duties in this position while under the influence of marijuana or any other substance (legal or illegal) that could impair the employee may constitute a threat to health and safety. PLWC maintains a zero-tolerance for the use of any substance that may impair a Safety Sensitive individual. Consequences of a violation can be found in the PLWC Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual.
SUMMARY: To work safely with team to maintain existing and construct new water and sewer utilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Ability to use safe work practices to protect yourself and your team.
Ability to repair and replace water and sewer mains, sewer manholes, force mains, fire hydrants, and other water and sewer systems and assemblies as needed.
Ability to read and comprehend maps, charts, other material.
Ability to operate heavy equipment that may include bulldozer, backhoe, excavator, and dump truck.
Ability and knowledge to use small hand tools.
Ability to work in trenches and in confined spaces.
May assume supervisory duties in the absence of the crew foreman.
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

This position is required to be on-call as necessary.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or two (2) to three (3) years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret construction drawings.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-step or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, public officials, and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with each. Ability to learn and use safety practices and equipment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver’s License; the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 1 year from date of eligibility within the company; Advantage to have Arkansas State Water Operators License, Sewer operator’s License, Plumbers License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to raw sewage (all protective equipment is provided) and in some situations toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee must have the ability to work in confined spaces (the employee is required to have an attendant for all determined confined spaces and must follow the PLWC safety procedures regarding such spaces). The employee should be able to perform well in groups or alone.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
