Job Description:

THIS POSITION IS AN ON-CALL POSITION - SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST LIVE WITHIN AN 8 MILE RADIUS OF THE HWY 49/HWY 412 INTERSECTION: JOB OPEN UNTIL FRIDAY, AUGUST 29TH

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: 

This position has been deemed a Safety Sensitive position and any person performing duties in this position while under the influence of marijuana or any other substance (legal or illegal) that could impair the employee may constitute a threat to health and safety.  PMU maintains a zero-tolerance for the use of any substance that may impair a Safety Sensitive individual.  Consequences of a violation can be found in the PMU Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual.

SUMMARY:

Assists linemen in construction and maintenance of all electric power lines. Incumbents must work in a highly dynamic environment involving both planned and unplanned activities.  Work is evaluated by the Crew Foreman through conferences, reports and results achieved.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follows National Electric Safety Code

Works under the direct supervision of Crew Leader and Journeyman Linemen on the crew

Assists linemen as an understudy during the construction or reworking of electric lines

Works power outages caused by storms, third parties, or equipment failures

Assists in brush removal and chipping  during tree trimming

Loads, stocks, and cleans truck

Learn the materials that are used in the department and what their purposes are

Assists other crews when needed

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret wire and construction plans.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out multiple step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Commercial Driver's License.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must be able to read and understand maps. General knowledge on emailing, using calendars, reports, Microsoft Word and Excel, and must have the ability to input data and retrieve information using a terminal, PC, iPad or other keyboard devices.
