Lift Station Maintenance
Job Description:
THIS POSITION IS AN ON-CALL POSITION - SUCCISSFUL CANIDATES MUST LIVE WITHIN A 10 MILE RADIUS OF HWY 49/HWY 412 INTERSECTION
SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: This position has been deemed a Safety Sensitive position and any person performing duties in this position while under the influence of marijuana or any other substance (legal or illegal) that could impair the employee may constitute a threat to health and safety. PMU maintains a zero-tolerance for the use of any substance that may impair a Safety Sensitive individual. Consequences of a violation can be found in the PMU Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual.
SUMMARY: Checks the operation of all lift stations. Work with Sewer Department safely to repair stations or other sewer utility needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Enters, as needed, each lift station and checks operation and performs maintenance (i.e. lubricates, cleans) and records hours of use.
The position requires that, with training, the employee be able to understand, troubleshoot, breakdown, repair and reassemble pumps, valves, sewer piping, basic electrical components, and controls.
Ability to repair and replace water and sewer mains, sewer manholes, force mains, fire hydrants, and other water and sewer systems and assemblies as needed
Responds to unplanned operational or maintenance events
Diagnoses operational problems and recommends corrective actions
Ability to use safe work practices to protect yourself and your team
Ability to operate heavy equipment, dump trucks, Hydro excavation and Flusher Truck, and Camera Van.
Ability to work with team and work within the public eye
Ability to read and comprehend maps and charts
Ability and knowledge to use small hand tools
Ability to work in ditches, manholes, confined spaces, and in contact with sewage
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to read and understand maps and charts. General knowledge on emailing, using calendars, reports, Microsoft Word and Excel, and must have the ability to input data and retrieve information using a terminal, PC, IPad or other keyboard devices.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver's License; Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year from date of eligibility within the company; Class II Wastewater license or be able to acquire license within two (2) years of entry in this position

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS CONTINUED:
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 150 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Hepatitis A and B vaccines, provided by PMU, are mandatory and must be completed as scheduled after hire date. If immunities are not developed, each vaccine series must be taken again. To maintain job position, the employee must become immune to Hepatitis A and B.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to raw sewage (all protective equipment is provided) and in some situations toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee must have the ability to work in confined spaces (the employee is required to have an attendant for all determined confined spaces and must follow the PLWC safety procedures regarding such spaces). The employee should be able to perform well in groups or alone.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
