Job Description:
THIS POSITION IS AN ON-CALL POSITION - SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST LIVE WITHIN A 10 MILE RADIUS OF THE HWY 49/HWY 412 INTERSECTION
SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: This position has been deemed a Safety Sensitive position and any person performing duties in this position while under the influence of marijuana or any other substance (legal or illegal) that could impair the employee may constitute a threat to health and safety. Paragould Municipal Utilities (PMU) maintains zero-tolerance for the use of any substance that may impair a Safety Sensitive individual. Consequences of a violation can be found in the PMU Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual.
SUMMARY: Assists with the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, buildings, and grounds, operates spreader truck and collects samples as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned and hereby incorporated.
Assists Chief Operator and Maintenance Operator with repairs and maintenance on treatment plant equipment and buildings when necessary.
Assists Chief Operator and Maintenance Operator with maintenance duties such as rebuilding pumps, replacing pipes, and making electrical repairs.
Maintains lawns, lagoon levees, and fence around property.
Operates sludge process equipment to produce a Class A Exceptional Quality biosolid. Must monitor temperatures, gauges, and various steps throughout the process to ensure that a particular quality of product is produced.
Operates biosolids spreader truck as needed (once CDL is obtained)
Acts as backup for collecting industrial samples and will immediately relinquish samples to laboratory personnel upon arrival into the laboratory.
Maintains mechanical room, janitor’s room, and hallways in main building in clean and proper working order.
Collects samples of wastewater and sludge for the laboratory.
Maintains the buildings and grounds in clean and proper order.
Collects and delivers WWTP mail and company correspondence.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six month to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, area, circumference, volume, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver's License; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one (1) year from date of eligibility within the company. Must be able to obtain a Class III Wastewater Operator’s License within a reasonable amount of time.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of keyboard, computer, and calculator.

Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and depth perception.
Hepatitis A and B vaccines, provided by PMU, are mandatory and must be completed as scheduled after hire date. If immunities are not developed, each vaccine series must be taken again. To maintain position, the employee must become immune to Hepatitis A and B.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
