Electrical Maintenance Technician

Job Description:

THIS POSITION IS AN ON-CALL POSITION - SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST LIVE WITHIN A 10-MILE RADIUS OF THE HWY 49/HWY 412 INTERSECTION

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION:  This position has been deemed a Safety Sensitive position and any person performing duties in this position while under the influence of marijuana or any other substance (legal or illegal) that could impair the employee may constitute a threat to health and safety.  PLWC maintains a zero-tolerance for the use of any substance that may impair a Safety Sensitive individual.  Consequences of a violation can be found in the PLWC Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual.

SUMMARY:  Responsible for electrical maintenance involving substations, metering and any other utility area necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  

Performs electrical switching of transmission and distribution.

Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and associated equipment.

Composes and reviews switching orders.

Performs troubleshooting duties and maintains equipment within substations (transformers, breakers, relays, etc.).

Operates SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).  Performs switching and breaker controls with SCADA as well as monitors the entire electrical distribution system.

Assists with SCADA maintenance.

Consults with customers to determine their metering and power needs.

Ability to troubleshoot, program, and maintain Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs.

Troubleshoots electrical equipment.

Maintains and troubleshoots issues with city traffic lights.

Assists other crews when needed, such as service and line crews.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five years’ experience in troubleshooting and maintaining all types of electrical control systems.  Knowledge and experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s, associated software and programming and maintaining Allen Bradley AC drives preferred.  Must have experience in all phases of wiring from power wiring for motors to control wiring and installation of conduits for wiring.  Should also have experience with pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.  Knowledge of generation control systems and operation of large generators (larger than 1 MW) beneficial.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent understanding of electrical math and how it applies to revenue metering.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret metering diagrams.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Arkansas Electricians License preferred. Must be able to obtain an Arkansas HVAC-R Class A license within first year of employment and a Commercial Driver's license within the first two years of employment.
